York Town Organics is a 2-hectare certified organic market garden operating in the West Tamar Valley for over thirty years. We specialise in salad, micro greens, herbs, root crops, summer vegetables and edible flowers. We take pride in offering exceptional quality produce to leading cafes, restaurants and retail outlets around Tasmania.
With spring fast approaching we are seeking an enthusiastic market gardener to join our dynamic and hard-working team. This position is an exciting opportunity to expand your career working in an established market garden committed to organic practices.
THE ROLE
Planting and maintaining crops – seeding, propagation, irrigation, weed management, fertiliser application, pest and disease control.
Preparing beds – operating flail mower, rotary hoe, power harrow and flame weeder.
General farm and garden maintenance – weeding, mowing, brush cutting and pruning.
Construction and maintenance of poly-tunnels and hothouses.
Occasionally assist the harvest, wash and pack team.
about you
Minimum of 1 year practical and technique experience working in market gardening, horticulture or agriculture.
Experience in organic farming and/or the crops we grow advantageous.
Experience operating and maintaining farm machinery.
Physically fit, with positive approach to manual labour and work outdoors, including in adverse conditions.
Strong interpersonal skills and able to work well in our team of 8 - 10.
Able to follow instruction, but also confidently work independently with minimal supervision and show initiative.
Punctual and reliable.
Available to work from Monday to Thursday, 8.30am to 4.30pm, particularly throughout the summer and holiday seasons, excluding public holidays.
