Beranghi Homestead is a 78 acre farm located 10 minutes drive from famed surf town Crescent Head, on the NSW Mid-North Coast. Built in 1895, we are developing the home as an air bnb business which will be managed by the local real estate separately. There are schools located in Crescent Head, Port Macquarie and Kempsey which are all nearby.

In addition to the homestead, there is a 3 bedroom caretakers cottage which has its own driveway and is separated from the main home by approximately 70 acres of good quality pastures. There is a river running alongside the property, stocked with Bass and in summer, mud crabs. In addition, there is a koala sanctuary of approximately 10 acres which we keep free from weeds as needed.

The property is newly purchased and we are looking for caretaker/s to assist us with general security, managing our livestock (preferably someone with a passion for Holistic / Regenerative farming techniques) and our beautiful garden and lawns. In return for 15 hours of work a week, we are offering the 3 bedroom caretaker cottage and approximately 2 acres for personal use. The cottage will undergo a renovation in September and will be ready to occupy by October 2021 with a new kitchen, sanded and polished floors and an updated bathroom.

Caretaking tasks will be varied in nature and can be done to work in with the caretakers schedule. They may include:

  • Livestock management ongoing - rotation of cattle through paddocks and arranging husbandry as required. We are developing a breeding herd of approximately 40 head.

  • General Farm maintenance - fencing, electric fence placement, clearing as needed

  • Assistance with the exterior of Beranghi homestead - lawn mowing and garden maintenance as required, chopping and providing wood for guests and other general caretaker duties (eg checking rainwater tank supply, gas, arranging trades as needed etc).

  • Also being available should guests have issues with any of the "external" issues in the house (eg water, power etc) - the real estate agent will be managing communications with the guests.

The successful candidate will have the run of the farm themselves for much of the time as it is our second home. There is an opportunity to create personal income from the property in the form of chicken farming. We are happy to discuss a partnership to help pay for the upfront costs and share in the profits. In addition, for the right candidate (if there is interest) we can discuss the paid management of the air bnb business generally although this is not a requirement as we have an agent in place.

Outside of the 15 hours of flexible work time, if required there are lots of employment opportunities in nearby Crescent Head, Kempsey, and Port Macquarie. This is a great lifestyle opportunity to live in one of the most beautiful coastal areas in NSW.

Short-term goal or vision for land

Buy a PTIC herd of breeding cattle (around 25 head) and install electric fencing to allow holistic management of cattle movement around the land. Develop chicken caravan enterprise to allow caretaker to earn revenue in partnership with owners (if funds assistance is required for start up) There are a number of dams with some erosion, we would want to plant native, koala friendly trees around these areas to develop fauna habitats. We are native animal friendly as well, there are kangaroos and wallabies that live in the area and we will live with them (ie no hunting)

Long-term goal or vision for land

Develop a drought resistant, multi species, profitable holistic management farm and a successful air bnb business, as well as second home for the owners. We genuinely want the caretaker in place for the long term and would love for them to prosper from managing the land correctly.

Known environmental hazards : Bottom 3 acres is adjacent to a swampy area next door, is prone to being very wet underfoot but does not affect cattle.

Current residents living on property : Beranghi Homestead will be an airbnb business and a second home to the owners. The caretakers will be the only people living full time on the property
